Winter Adventure Series: Belfast to the Top of Labrador

Belfast’s own Jonathan Fulford’s voyage lasted four months. He sailed 4,000 nautical miles northward to the top of the Button Islands at the top of Labrador in a 28 ft. sailboat with a crew of four. The scenery included thousands of ice bergs, puffins, razorbills, fulmars and gannets — as well as polar bears whales, fijords, abandoned fishing villages and a hurricane. It was an adventure into the high latitudes, a first hand experience of a rapidly changing ecosystem, and an opportunity to learn how people are trying to adapt to the changes.
